KARACHI: Chairman, Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of Shaikh Atiq Ahmed, son of former secretary general of PPP Shaikh Rafiq Ahmed.
Shaikh Atiq Ahmed died in Lahore this morning, said statement issued by Bilawal House here on Friday.
Late Shaikh fought valiantly against the dictatorship of General Zia-ul-Haq and faced severe torture during captivity resulting in psychological disorders and chronic diabetes, which continued till his last breath.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that workers like Shaikh Atiq Ahmed shall remain big icons among 'Jiyalas' who sacrificed their personal lives in the struggle for democracy and the restoration of usurped rights of the downtrodden people of the country.
PPP Chairman paid rich tribute to Shaikh Atiq Ahmed while condoling his death.
He prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul, and grant courage and fortitude to his family members to bear this loss for equanimity.
