LAHORE: Sardar Ayaz Sadiq Saturday announced to challenge the verdict of election tribunal to order repolling in NA-122 Lahore from where he was elected as member of the National Assembly in 2013 general election.
Talking to the media, Ayaz said he had consulted Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in this regard. He respected the verdict with some reservations but the same would be challenged in the Supreme Court.
He said that the tribunal ordered for re-polling on technical grounds whereas there was no reference of rigging in the verdict.
He said the tribunal did not hold him or Imran Khan responsible for irregularities but the polling staff.
Responding to a question, Sadiq said, "I am no more MNA, how can I be the assembly's speaker anymore."
Talking to media earlier, Ali Ayaz Sadiq, son of Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, said that Imran Khan through his petition had alleged that Ayaz Sadiq rigged the elections in NA-122 constituency. However, the tribunal did not mention the word 'rigging' in its detailed 80-page verdict, he added.
Barrister Asjad Saeed, counsel for Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, said that the tribunal ordered re-polling due to irregularities committed by the polling staff but there was no question of rigging.
