Flash floods kill 16 in Kohistan, relief items dispatched: DCO
PESHAWAR: As many as 16 persons died and dozens of houses were destroyed due to heavy rain lashed last night causing, flash flooding and land sliding in mountainous Kohistan district. District Corridination Officer Kohistan, Syed Imtaiz Hussain talking to APP on Thursday said the last night heavy rain has suddenly raised level of water in water-streams in the district and in result low-laying area of Gabral union council of Tehsil Kundyan were inundated by flash floods.
Due to rising water level at Usmani rainy nullah, most of the houses located on it were washed away with gushing water, he added. He informed that 16 people died while several others were rescued, adding, about 100 families has been affected. He added that the casualty figure may increase as several people were still missing.
The DCO said the floods-hit area of Gabral is located some 200 kilometer North West of Dasu, headquarter of Kohistan and relief teams along with goods have been dispatched to affected areas for assistance of flood victims. He said Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and Army has been requested for helicopter services for intensifying relief operations.
