Pakistani singer Umair Jaswal made an impact with his tunes in Season 5 and 6 of Coke Studio Pakistan. He returns on Coke Studio Season 8, alongside Quratulain Balouch (QB), complementing one another in a folk tune. The song became a massive hit, but he recently revealed that he received several hate mails after the song ‘Sammi Meri Waar’.
According to local media report, he said, “I have received a lot of hate mail from people, which at times has been really offensive and negative, but I chose not to retaliate”. Jaswal explained that like all renowned rock musicians, such as AC/DC and Chris Cornell, he too enjoys putting on a show. “The reason why it all felt so out of place was maybe because I was moving like anything and QB stood still. There was a huge contrast there,” he joked.
The singer further explained that he could have stayed in his comfort zone and done a traditional rock song but he chose otherwise. “Sammi is actually a wedding dance number, and I’ve never done something like that and thought why not to do it now”.
‘Coke Studio’ Season 8 is ruling the charts, not just in Pakistan but worldwide too. Jaswal popularity is being enhanced by his latest appearance on the show. Previously, he faced a similar backlash during his debut appearance in Coke Studio, when he (as part of Qayaas) performed ‘Charkha Nolakha’ alongside Atif Aslam. As per report he said, “The amount of hate I got back then is unimaginable”.
Umair Jaswal also told that he also received messages from country like Iraq.
