ISLAMABAD: Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar on Tuesday said the government was taking concrete steps to bring 5 million traders under the tax net regime.
Finance Minister said that government would conduct population census in 2016 and those who having National Tax Number (NTN) would be exempted from tax deduction.
Talking to a private TV channel, Minister stressed the need for ensuring political stability for economic stability in the country.
He said that the government has already achieved US $ 20 Billion against the set target of US $19 Billion till December 31 2015.
Replying to question, he said that Pakistan has so far received US $ 4.76 Billions from international Monetary Fund (IMF), While we have returned US $ 4.50 Billions loan to the Fund.
"We have returned US $ 1 Billion IMF loan, while We have also returned $ 3.2 Billions loan of previous government," he remarked.
Finance Minister stressed the need for enhancing exports for the socio- economic prosperity of the country.
Minister said that the Sindh government had showed interest in the purchase of Pakistan steel mills, adding said if the losses of the mill can be reduced by eliminating the ghost employees from the organization.
He said if the Sindh government wish to run the steel mill then it should be provided an opportunity to it.
Replying to an other question about fake currency in ATM machines, he said that he has asked acting governor State Bank of Pakistan that how such notes were put in the machines.
He said that as long as he is in government,he would ensure that his sons would never become part of any business activity with the government departments.
However he regretted for leveling baseless allegations without any proof.
"I am doing service to the country by considering it as Jihad," he remarked.
