ISLAMABAD: Minister for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON), Lt.Gen. (Retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch sought international support for establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan for ensuring conducive atmosphere for the return refugees to homeland.
Speaking at the special two day United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) meeting on Thursday, the minister stressed that local host communities in Pakistan had been very generous in supporting their Afghan brothers and sister for more than three decades - a fact recognized by UNHCR high commissioner Antonio Guterres.
It was important for the international community to support Pakistan efforts for the return of the Afghan Refugees, said a press release.
He appreciated the commitment of the Government of President Ashraf Ghani to the return of Afghan refugees.
The meeting adopted a statement that appreciated the generous hospitality provided by Pakistan and Iran calling upon the international community to support the efforts of Pakistan and Iran for the return of Afghan refugees and the reintegration of Afghan Refugees in their own country as well as support the host communities in Pakistan and Iran.
