KARACHI: Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) leader Waseem Akhtar on Tuesday accused Sindh government of harassing their nominees of local government elections, adding the monitoring committee constituted to review the Karachi operation has proved ineffective.
Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club, he said that some of their candidates for local government elections from different union councils have been whisked away.
He said along with other political and religious parties, MQM had also supported the Karachi operations against the terrorists, extortionists and other criminal elements.
He claimed that till now a large number of their party men has been killed after the start of Karachi operation.
He said however they still support the Karachi operation as peace is the first priority of Karachities.
He said MQM, the largest political party of Karachi and fourth largest party of Pakistan, has faced political revenge in every era.
He said the captain of Karachi operation Syed Qaim Ali Shah has given free hand to the police against his party workers. He claimed conspiracies are being hatched to keep MQM away from the local government elections.
He demanded of higher authorities to investigate the incidents of arrests of their party workers.
