imageISLAMABAD: Minister for Defence and Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Tuesday said that the Nandi Pur Power Project would soon be made operational after converting its oil treatment plant to liquified natural gas.

Speaking at a private news channel, Khawaja Asif said that technically the government has not taken over the Nandi Pur Power Project yet. He said that the government has no objection on any audit or any kind of inquiry or investigation to probe into the project.

The minister said that the governmnet has maintained the circular debt at Rs 314 billion which has not been increased. He added the agreement for the production of electricity on liquified Natural Gas (LNG) would soon be finalized and the reverse payment plan with the Ministry of Petroleum for the purchase of LNG would also be finalized soon, he added.

To a question, the minister said that the loadshedding was decreased from twelve hour and maintained at six hours per day during the incumbent regime.

The Minister said that NEPRA has never stated that the 70 percent of the electric meters were faulty.

Replying to another question, Khawaja Asif said that initially five old faulty power plants including Muzaffargarh, Multan, Guddu, Kotary and Jamshoro would be replaced to minimize the oil consumption for provision of low cost electricity.

Appreciating the Operation Zarb-e-Azb, the minister said that Pak Army and the civilians have rendered unprecedented sacrifices to eliminate the terrorism from the country, and the Shawal Operation would also be completed soon.

Defence Minister said "Our brave nation and army wrote the history with its blood to eliminate terrorism."

While giving the example of Afghanistan, the minister said that the forces of sixteen countries equipped with state- of- the-art facilities could not succeed to establish a stable government, but Pak army achieved the milestone of uprooting the terrorism from the country.

The Prime Minister's upcoming visit to USA would also be proved a milestone for confidence building and strengthening ties between the two countries, he remarked.
