KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Senator Sirajul Huq on Saturday said that his party will win the local governments election in Karachi if the polls are held in free and fair manner.
Addressing a press conference at Idara-e-Noor Huq, JI chief said his party is contesting on 95% constituencies and has already completed preparation. He said that voting power is the real power of the people and they can secure their own future if they choose right candidates.
‘Local government elections are necessary for making Karachi prosperous again and it is a golden chance to bring back an era of development for the metropolis,’ Siraj stated.
JI chief while raising questions about the powers of upcoming local governments, said that the powers meant for ther local Sindh government are with major departments like Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB), Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA) which should be given to the local government. ‘Local governments should have financial and administrative powers so they can use these powers for the development of the cities,’ Siraj demanded.
Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami stressed the need that elections should be held in fair and free manner so that the people can vote for their favorite candidates. ‘Authorities should keep strict vigil on the misuse of money during the polls and make sure that people will not be frightened and intimidated by any party,’ he demanded.
‘Streets of Karachi are offering view of Mohenjo Daro. Karachiites are deprived of education, healthcare, public transport and other basic necessities. There are piles of dirt everywhere, and no play grounds for the children,’ Siraj added.
JI chief JI mayor era was a golden era, there was no target killing, extortion, kidnaping for ransom and after our local government was over Karachi again faced strikes and riots. JI would make Karachi a model of which Pakistan and whole Islamic world would be proud.
