HONG KONG: Shanghai stocks closed down 1.70 percent on Monday after data showed manufacturing activity in the world's second largest economy contracted in October.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dropped 57.48 points to 3,325.08. The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, fell 1.33 percent, or 26.89 points, to 1,987.97.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index ended down 1.2 percent, or 271.81 points, at 22,368.23.
