HONG KONG: Stocks in Shanghai sank Wednesday with investors fearing the imminent restart of initial public offerings would soak up market liquidity, while Hong Kong also ended lower following the previous day's gains.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 1.01 percent, or 36.33 points, to 3,568.47, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, dropped 1.85 percent, or 41.30 points, to 2,189.88.
And the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong slipped 0.34 percent, or 75.99 points, to finish at 22,188.26.
