imagePESHAWAR: Test cricketer Mohammad Rizwan Friday inaugurated PGSC Cricket Club in an impressing opening ceremony held at Peshawar Group of School and College premises here.

Muhammad Rizwan, who is associated with Shama club formed by Associate Industries Nowshera, termed the management of the PGSC for taking an encouraging step toward promotion cricket in Peshawar.

He said forming of the Club would certainly benefit talented players who could not continue their game due financial constrained. Such initiative would go a long way, he added.

Rizwan played 51 first class matches with 76 innings, scored 2808 runs, five 100s and 16 runs by grabbing 151 catches behind the stamps. He urged upon the private sector to come up and played their due role as far as supporting young talented players.

"I have not even money for continuing my cricket but when in 2008 Shama Club was formed by Associate Industries it lesser down my burden because all out Club management provided us all facilities including kits, shoes, waving off club fee and travelling expensive on monthly basis like stipend of Rs. 5000," Rizwan added.

"Certainly after all such facilities, I was able to keep focus more on my games, that is why with full concentration, blessing of Almighty Allah, prayers of parents and efforts of my coaches I succeed to be inducted in national team," Rizwan, who played 14 ODIs and scored 322 runs with his highest 75 knock including three 50s and 10 catches.

Rizwan also played for Pakistan A sides and scored 1907 runs after playing 65 matches with three 100s and 83 catches besides playing 41 T20 matches scored 702 runs with three 50s and grabbed 22 catches.

Earlier, Rizwan formally inaugurated the Club by cutting the tape. Chairman ICMS Chamkani Branch, Patron-in-Chief of the Club Anwar Khan, former Secretary PDCA Syed Hanif Shah, coach Fazli Akbar were also present.

Before forming the club more than 200 players took part in the trials and out of that 16 were selected for the club.

Earlier, Muhammad Rizwan also distributed full playing kits among the selected probables of the PGSC Club and expressed the hope that the boys would continue their hard work in future.
