imageISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Secretary for Cabinet Division Raja Javed Ikhlas Friday informed the National Assembly that there was no permission to the companies operating in the country to use Islamic names as trademark for their products.

"All requests to register Islamic names trademark on different products have been rejected," he said during the question-hour.

Under Section 14 of the Trade Marks Ordinance, 2001, neither trademark nor any of its part could be registered if it consisted of any 'scandalous design' or a matter that might hurt 'religious susceptibilities' of any section of the society.

He said if any such application was received in the Trade Marks Registry, the applicant was requested to amend or delete such material from the mark.

Usually, he said, almost all such applications were amended at the initial stage of examination of the file under Section 22 of the ordinance However, if any applicant insisted on registering any such material, the Registry refused such application under section 14 (3) b and c and Section 28 of the ordinance.
