LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Saturday said that solid strategy had been evolved for promoting tree plantation and horticulture in the province.
Presiding over a meeting which reviewed pace of progress on the steps taken for tree plantation and promotion of horticulture here, he said development projects were being made attractive and beautiful by horticulture across the province.
The chief minister directed that the work for improving recreational facilities and rehabilitation of parks should be accelerated.
All concerned institutions should work in a coordinated manner for beautification of the cities through horticulture and tree plantation, he added.
Shehbaz Sharif directed to constitute a Steering Committee which would be autonomous and take steps for promoting tree plantation and horticulture.
He further said that the committee would also ensure timely completion of the projects relating to horticulture, tree plantation, landscaping and rehabilitation of parks.
Punjab government would also develop parks at railway areas and it would be responsibility of railway authorities to look after these parks, he added.
Shehbaz Shraif said that encroachments not only affected beauty of the cities but also created traffic problems.
Therefore, concerned officials should evolve a comprehensive plan with mutual consultation for removing encroachments on permanent basis, he added.
Shehbaz Sharif directed that laws should be implemented for ensuring provision of facilities in housing schemes. He said that a comprehensive plan with regard to setting up of picnic points and promotion of horticulture from Dharampura to Wahga Border be submitted and submit within two weeks.
He said that work should be accelerated for making walls and surrounding areas of flyovers and underpasses attractive through horticulture.
The Chief Minister said that walls of the buildings along roadsides should also be made beautiful through horticulture and ivies.
Shehbaz Sharif appreciated DCO Lahore on the work of rehabilitation and renovation of iron grill erected at Lahore Canal and underpasses from Dharampura to Thokar Niaz Baig.
Commissioner Lahore Division, Director General PHA and DCO gave detailed briefings about the steps taken for rehabilitation of parks, tree plantation and horticulture. Kh. Ahmad Hasaan, Vice Chairman PHA Iftikhar Ahmad, Inspector General
Police, Secretary Housing, MD NESPAK, MD WASA and concerned officials attended the meeting.
The meeting gave approval to construct forest parks at three different sites in provincial metropolis.
