imageKARACHI: US Consul General (CG) to Karachi, Brian Heath on Friday said that Army Public School (APS) tragedy renewed everyone's commitment to fight back against extremism to ensure safe Pakistan and safe world.

Talking to media persons during his visit to Karachi Press Club (KPC) for donating three computers, network & printer system and software to the Club, he said, "The media plays a very important role in a free society."

Brian said that journalists in Pakistan face challenging and dangerous conditions like many other parts of the world.

He said that "US State department is investing $4 million to fund the establishment of the Centre for Excellence in Journalism at Karachi's Institute of Business Administration." Adding that the centre is dedicated to providing journalism training to support the professional development of Pakistani journalists.

He said, this year, US government sent journalists from VSH TV and KTN TV to US for several weeks to cover US news stories.

Moreover, CG Brian said that US government had paid for eleven Pakistani media professionals from Sindh and Balochistan provinces to travel to US to participate in journalism programs on Internet freedom, human rights, security and safety and social responsibility.

Earlier, President, KPC, Fazil Jamili and Secretary A.H Khanzada welcomed the CG to the KPC.
