imageKARACHI: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) activists and also the ardent supporters of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto (ZAB) celebrated on Tuesday the 88th birth anniversary of one of the most charismatic politicians of the country.

Varied programs were organized by the supporters and followers of the hanged leader, including former workers of the party established by him in late 1960s, across the metropolis in a simple manner.

Party workers and activists in compliance with the directives of the party leadership arranged cake cutting ceremonies besides making special sessions of Quran Khawani and Dua, distribution of food among resource-less and seminars to pay tribute to the founder of their party, also known to many as Quaid e Awam.

Many of the ardent followers of Bhutto philosophy did appear disillusioned with the current PPP situation, yet their love and respect for ZAB seemed to had little diminished despite his judicial killing in 1977.

"The fact that ZAB was the first leader who created a sense of self respect and dignity among the working class can not be ever forgotten by the down trodden sections," said Dr. Abdul Jabbar, one of the pioneer members of the party.

The doctor running his clinic in Mehmoodabad area of Karachi said "My" leader was an enlightened man with a multi-faceted personality.

Dispelling the impression that he was pseudo socialist or a man with strong feudal traits the well respected professional said strong decisions with lasting impact made by PPP under ZAB leadership in 1970s were meant empowerment of the people in general.

To a question about the mess created due to privatization of educational institutions by the ZAB led government, he said "we need to realize that he attempted to ensure uniformity in school and college syllabus across the country."

"Another most crucial element is the time needed to get properly materialized the national goals," said Maroof Raza, another senior PPP activist defending his leader's policies, considered to be extremely controversial.

The activists dispelled the impression that policies claimed to be pro-worker and pro-public were farce or undertaken half-heartedly.

There were highly educated and learned people like Dr. Mubashar Hasan, J.A. Rahim and people of same calibre behind, they said mentioning that had these policies not been reverted by anti Bhutto the situation would have been absolutely different.

Appearing to be quite optimistic they claimed that Bhutto philosophy would regain its strength with a new vigor at the grass roots level.

To another query, they said political leaders must take upon themselves to create sense of self respect and worthiness among public besides sensitizing them of their responsibilities.

This is high time that political leaders deliver to the masses their rights guaranteed under the constitution and also the required discipline and capacities to do optimum in due realization of these rights, said Dr. Abdul Jabbar.
