MIRPUR (AJK): Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid Wednesday asked people of Azad Kashmir to vote for PML-N in the forthcoming general election for transforming their destiny.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was a visionary leader who planned to build a motorway in early 1990s when other leaders were opposing the project, he said addressing the PML-N's Workers Convention here.
Pervaiz Rashid said opponents of motorways were now requesting the government to build such mega projects in their areas as well.
He said that when Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently, instead of raising the Kashmir issue, he asked him to provide him a bat and a ball. On the contrary, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his meetings with Indian counterpart always discussed ways to eliminate terrorism, resolve Kashmir dispute, root out poverty and took steps to stop firing on the Line of Control, which speaks volumes about the approach of the two leaders. He said that Nawaz Sharif had strong commitment with Kashmir cause and would always raise the Kashmir issue during his meetings with Indian leadership.
He said the Federal Government was serving the Kashmiri people with billions of rupees for the development works in AJK. Moreover the facilities of laptop computers and reimbursement of students fees were also being provided to AJK students. Similarly, he said that Benazir Income Support Programme also covered the poor segments of the society in AJK.
Referring to inefficiency and incompetence of present AJK government, he said that Neelam-Jhelam hydel project was to be completed about seven years back, but it was lingering on when PML-N came to power.
He said that no transmission line was planned in the project and when the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited, he directed for its completion and building of a transmission line as well.
The minister said that a series of workers conventions in Azad Kashmir, starting from Bhimber and culminating in Muzaffarabad, would force the opponents of the PML-N to flee.
He said that the PML-N accepted results of the AJK elections 2011, despite serious reservations, as its leadership believed in the principle that those winning the mandate of the people be allowed to rule for five-year term.
He said despite revolts in the PPP AJK, Islamabad gave free hand to PPP government in Muzaffarabad to complete its tenure and no interference was made in their matters of governance so that they could not claim that they were not allowed to deliver.
He said the PPP government was corrupt, inefficient and failed to deliver and now people would hold it accountable for its corruption and misdeeds, he added. He said the PML-N leadership advised its workers to show tolerance and allowed it to complete its term for the sake of democracy.
The Senator said People's Student Federation activists launched coffin-clad protest against their own Prime Minister declaring him corrupt and inefficient. He said those who were looting and oppressing Kashmiris would be defeated in the polls.
He said that PML-N was organizing Workers Conventions and election campaign was yet to start, but Chaudhry Abdul Majeed was having sleepless nights thinking what would happen to him when PML-N's top leadership visited AJK.
Later, addressing the oath taking ceremony of newly elected office bearers of Mirpur Press Club as the chief guest, he said that the present PPP government of AJK had prepared a plan to get the new AJK president from the outgoing assembly, and get its tenure extended, which was against the law and unethical, but the PML-N would foil this conspiracy by wisdom and acumen.
PML-N believed in democratic values and would foil such conspiracies through democratic means, the minister said. He said the PML-N party workers were duly consulted in the decision-making process.
He said that the year 2016 was comparatively better, both in terms of economy and law and order.
To a question, he said that PML-N would not form any election alliance in AJK and contest the election with its symbol Tiger and its own manifesto.
