imageSAN FRANCISCO: Amazon on Tuesday announced the arrival of devices that order their own refills from the online retail titan.

Amazon Dash Replenishment technology is making its marketplace debut in a General Electric washer; a Gmate SMART blood glucose monitor and Brother printers.

"We want to make customers' lives even easier so they won't run out of items like laundry detergent, pet food or printer ink again," Amazon devices director Daniel Rausch said in a release.

"It's exciting to make Dash Replenishment a reality."

The feature can be activated when people link smart devices to the Internet, then go on to place orders with Amazon when supplies get low.

For example, a Brother printer will order ink from Amazon when needed.

"Customers can start taking advantage of the service today and we will continue to launch and add new devices to the program this year," Rausch said.

Amazon introduced its "dash" button last year as part of an effort to boost its presence for everyday household items and groceries.

Subscribers can merely press a button to reorder certain items like diapers, toiler paper, razors, trash bags, clearing supplies, baby formula and makeup.
