imageKARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has directed Information Technology Department to install biometric system in Sindh Secretariat to accurate record attendance of the employees. "The attendance system must be connected with the payroll of the employees. This would help to identify the habitual absentees and late comers."

He issued these directive while presiding over a meeting of IT department here today. The meeting was attended by Minister IT Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Principal Secretary to CM Alamuddin Bullo, Secretary IT Abdul Rahim Shaikh and others.

The chief minister said that this was a computer age and the government must take its benefit. "The biometric attendance system must be started right from Sindh Secretariat and then it would be expanded to district offices," he said and added that the recording of attendance through biometric system would be right from peon to chief secretary.

Secretary IT Abdul Rahim Shaikh said that some 87 machine are required to be installed in all the buildings of Sindh secretariat. Any employee can record his attendance through his finger impressions on any machine.

Replying to a question, the secretary said that last time 22000 employees thumb impression were saved in the biometric system. There are over 7000 employees sitting in all the four secretariat buildings and barracks, he said.

The chief minister direct him to restart biometric attendance system in all the secretariat offices. For the purpose he approved Rs24 million and directed the department to expedite it within two months. "First you complete it in Sindh Secretariat then I would extend it to local bodies like KMC and DMCs," he said and added that this would help to remove ghost employees, if any, from the payroll.
