SINGAPORE: China's feed industry is expected to consume 15 million to 20 million tonnes of wheat in 2011/12 if corn prices remain high, a Canadian Wheat Board official based in Beijing said on Tuesday.
"We see a lot of switching from corn to wheat in China," Haiguang Shi, a vice president of the Canadian Wheat Board, told Reuters at a grains conference in Singapore. "Wheat prices are 15 percent below corn, so that's why a lot of feed mills are shifting to feed wheat."
Asked about the quantity of wheat, Shi said: "It is 15 million to 20 million tonnes, if corn prices continue to remain high. The industry thinks so, and I also have the same view."
