ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid said on Friday it was strange that chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran wanted to come on PTV but was reluctant to appear before inquiry commission.
Talking to media persons after attending a function in which nephew of former Azad Kashmir President Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan joined Pakistan Muslim League, here he said "It is strange that Imran wants to come on the PTV, but he does not want to appear before the inquiry commission and give proofs, if he has any."
Those opposing the constitution of the inquiry commission of Panama leaks, knew that when truth was known they would have to face embarrassment, he said.
If they want that truth should be known, they should support the constitution of the commission, instead of doing politics on the issue, he added.
To a question about Imran's letter for permission to address on the Pakistan Television, he said it was a national institution and only President of Pakistan and Prime Minister could address the nation through it.
He said if Imran Khan was allowed to use PTV for being an MNA, then over 400 MNAs and Senators would demand the same privilage while there are only 365 days in one year.
He said that PML-N office bearers or their relatives had done nothing wrong and truth would come out.
He said the inquiry commission would be fully empowered to get help from any institution or agency and would fulfil the requirements being demanded by the opposition parties.
To a question, he said that the commission would also have the powers to direct for an international audit as demanded by the opposition.
He said that PTV could telecast live the proceedings of the assembly after getting permission from the Speaker, and whenever he issued such directive the PTV covered the proceedings.
Replying to a question about a statement of Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani, he said he envisioned a bright future for Pakistan.
Earlier in his address, he welcomed the nephew of Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan in the PML-N folds and said Muslim Conference (MC) had lost its heart and mind in 2010 when PML-N was formed in AJK but now it had lost its soul.
He said that MC was the face of PML-N in the AJK but things went wrong when the party was handed over to Sardar Attique after the illness of Sardar Qayyum. In such circumstances, there were two options, either MC should change its head or Muslim League should be formed in AJK.
The minister said that the people of AJK had great expectations from the leadership as it was base camp of the freedom struggle, but the AJK leadership could not come up to the expectations of the masses.
He advised the MC leadership to choose a new head of the party if they wanted to have some representation in the next election.
