Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (Sessi) has distributed Rs 24.307 million as cash benefits and registered 42,000 new workers during the year 2003.
The Commissioner Sessi Nasar Hayaat disclosed this in a presentation to Minister Labour, Transport, Industries and Commerce Muhammad Adil Siddiqui, who is also Chairman of Governing Body, Sessi.
Presenting details, the Commissioner informed that this disbursement includes payment of Rs 7.831 million as sickness benefit followed by Rs 10.696 million as disablement pension/gratuity, Rs 3.796 million as injury benefit, Rs 1.318 million as survivors pension, Rs 0.394 million as maternity benefit and Rs 0.27 million as death grant/iddat benefit.
He informed that a sum of Rs 641.488 million was collected as social security contribution from 15,188 registered establishments employing 263,275 workers during the said period.
Regarding medical services Adil Siddiqui was apprised that attendance of out door patients at Sessi's medical centres stood at 1.627 million while 17,750 patients were admitted and 2,687 major operations were performed in social security hospitals.
The commissioner Sessi further told that new equipment worth Rs 80 million had been provided to social security hospitals and new Neuro Surgery and Cardiac Wards had been established in Kulsoon Bai Valika Social Security SITE Hospital, Karachi.
He said that as per directive of the Minister Labour, priority was accorded to increasing the number of secured workers and uplifting the social security medical outlets.
