LNH organising 'Public Awareness Week' from January 12

Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) is organising awareness week for the public from January 12 to 17.
According to a Hospital spokesman on Friday, a wide variety of subjects would be discoursed every day throughout the week from 9 am to 2 pm.
Experts from different specialties will give lectures on different essential health topics, and doctors will give free advice on different problems to the public.
The spokesman giving details of the 'public awareness week' said that the week would be inaugurated on January 12 in the morning with the title 'Save your Heart'. It will provide all kinds of information regarding how to prevent and treat injury to your heart and live a healthier and longer life.
On January 13, 'Smoking is a killer habit-kill it' will be the theme of the day in which health experts would stress upon prevention and treatment of infections in the society like viral hepatitis, a killer disease, value of vaccination programs pollution related chest diseases, tuberculosis courses.
The awareness day for 'surgical problems' would be observed on January 14. The experts will educate the public on bowel cancer, gastric problems, menace of oral cancer, treatment of burns, osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.
The Hospital has also arranged lectures on 'Mother and child day' on January 15. The experts will share their experiences about breast cancer, and common gynaecology problems will be discussed, while child specialists will discuss nutrition in children and the importance of breast feeding.
Dentists will speak on dental health care which lacks tremendously in the community.
A day for 'Save Kidneys-Save Lives' has been planned on January 16. The value of responding to blood in the urine will be highlighted by the experts. Incontinence, and its treatment will be discussed, which is a curse for the women folk. Renal failure and its treatment will be discussed.
'The Diabetes Day' will be marked on January 17. Consultant will educate the public and give free sugar test and distribute leaflets regarding diet. Eye problems in the community will also be discussed and kidney experts will discuss diabetic effects on kidneys.
After the public awareness week, the LNH will hold from January 21 to 24 their 5th symposium on 'Evolving Patient Care: 50 years and beyond'.
This will be a gathering of experts presenting their research papers and debating the issues of great medical significance and changing practices for the better of the community as well as for the postgraduate trainee doctors to learn about views on research in current set-up.
Live video conference at the LNH auditorium linking with Mumbai and Bangkok on 'Arteriosclerosis in the Asian Population' will highlight the symposium inauguration.
The exchange of information will help in improving the treatment policies in this part of the world.
There will be more than 20 workshops on different specialised procedures. Besides, an interactive debate on issues like euthanasia and accountability in the medical profession would also be organised.
