Competitions of any kind provide a welcome change, and a much needed relief to the students studying in a routine. In this regard, 'the Unilever International Art Project For Schools' is nothing short of a blessing in disguise for all art-oriented students, who are given the opportunity each year to gain exposure at an international level. Each year students from across the world wait in eager anticipation for the competition, which provides an amazing platform through which children can explore different mediums and demonstrate their understanding of issues that directly affect our world today.
Competition is especially important in honouring each child's unique style and strength, and is based totally upon every student's independent interpretation of the given theme.
Zain Rizvi, a 16 year old student from Frobels, lslamabad has been selected as one of the winners of the Unilever International Art Project for Schools 2003, for his impressive entry entitled "Memories of California." The talented young artist's work is being exhibited at The Tate Modern Gallery of London - a great achievement for the youngster and a source of great pride for the nation.
The competition has entries from all over the world. One student from each country was selected as a winner from thousands of entries from every country.
Chosen for its originality and novel concept, Zain's artwork, symbolizing a gigantic wave made from mineral water bottles joined together in a curve, was certainly an unusual interpretation of the competition's theme, 'Our Relationship with Water'.
Zain and other children, whose work was selected traveled to London to attend a special celebration and see their work displayed at one of the world's leading galleries for contemporary art. There they had an opportunity to see Olafur Eliasson's work for 'The Unilever Series', an annual art competition at Tate Modern Gallery.
This is the third year that Unilever has arranged the International Art Project for Schools. This is a much-awaited event for students from across the world. Every year students are given thought-provoking topics that touch people's lives in a profound manner, encouraging children to take a deeper look at their surroundings. A showcase for international views and perspectives, the Unilever International Art Project for Schools, touches upon the inner workings of the minds of children of all ages.
