As the Saarc leaders gathered in Islamabad for their summit, Hurriyat Conference led by Maulana Mohammad Abbas Ansari appealed to them to give priority to Kashmir issue, though against their charter, because it related to the region's security and development.
"Ignoring Kashmiris in the dialogue process aimed at resolving Kashmir issue would be a historic mistake, "Abbas Ansari said, adding "neither any talks minus Kashmiris would be meaningful nor any agreement would prove everlasting".
The statement said the meeting of South Asian countries in Islamabad assumes significance in the view of the changing political scenario at the international level.
"The key to peace, prosperity, stability and development in the South Asian region lies in the resolution of occupied Kashmir issue," a statement issued by the APHC said.
"It is understandable that the constitution of Saarc does not allow raking up of bilateral issues, but when the issue relates to the security and development of the whole region it should be given top priority in any dialogue process," the statement said.
