The Kashmiri people living on both sides of the Line of Control and across the world would observe January 5 as the Right to Self-determination Day in commemoration of UN-adopted resolution on the same day in 1949.
To mark the day, protest rallies and demonstration will be held by the Kashmiris to draw attention of the world community towards the lingering issue of Kashmir.
Kashmir has been unsettled on the UN agenda for the last five decades despite India's pledge to hold UN-supervised plebiscite to let the Kashmiris decide their future according to their aspirations.
Kashmiri people will stage peaceful demonstration in all the district headquarters of AJK, including Muzaffarabad Bagh, Rawalakot, Saduhanot, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur to apprise the world about their genuine problem, and urge it to play its role in peacefully resolution of the long-standing Kashmir dispute.
AJK Prime Minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan will attend a function at the Kashmir Centre in Rawalpindi, while the PPP AJK will hold a protest rally at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi.
