Integrated plan a must to curb pollution

A comprehensive, integrated and well co-ordinated strategy is must to arrest environmental pollution.
This was stated by Shaukat Hayat, district officer, environment, here on Sunday.
He said the pollution is a multi-dimensional and multifarious issue, but generally it is considered to be the exclusive domain of the Environment Protection Department.
"This notion and general psyche has downplayed the perils of pollution, which has now attained an alarming proportion," he added.
Commenting on various categories of pollution, Shaukat Hayat said it has crossed all limits converting Faisalabad into one of the most polluted cities of the world, adding concentration of smoke and dust in climate has been recorded at 700 microgram per cubic meter as compared to the WHO (World Health Organisation) limit of 230.
Most of the sub-soil water is also polluted while only one-third of population has access to piped water, he added.
