Punjab Food Minister Chaudhry Mohammad Iqbal has said no government department can run its day-to-day affairs smoothly without the support and co-operation of its officers and officials.
He stated this while addressing the oath-taking ceremony of the Food Department Field Staff Association here on Sunday.
The minister said honest and dutiful officers or officials are backbone of any department, who play a key role in its smooth functioning.
Chaudhry Iqbal said the government spends billions of rupees every year on wheat purchase, and the food department is responsible for its storage in a proper way, adding this is an important responsibility that cannot be performed without the co-operation and support of the staff of the department.
"Honest and dutiful officers as well as officials are assets to the food department", he said.
The minister called upon the officials to further improve their efficiency and raise the image of the food department.
Speaking about the welfare of the employees, he said the government is doing its best for their well-being and prosperity.
Earlier, Association General Secretary Khawaja Mohammad Nasim, in his address of welcome, apprised the minister of the problems faced by the staff. The minister assured him of his full co-operation in this regard.
Later, the minister administered oath to the newly-elected office-bearers of the Association. Secretary Shahid Hussain Raja and Director General Food Jawad Rafiq were also attended the ceremony.
