Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union (PWHECLU) leadership has asked the Wapda authority to accept the just demands of more than 120,000 workers of the organisation, including restoring employment quota for the Wapda employees children and crew allowance for the grid station workers.
These demands were raised at the union meeting held on Sunday which was addressed by Central Secretary General Khurshid Ahmed Khan, and provincial president Latif Nizamani.
Both the leaders asked the labour community to forge unity among their ranks so they could continue to struggle for their rights and making Pakistan a modern democratic welfare state.
They pointed out that the government was trying to sell the lucrative sectors of Wapda to private sector including Faisalabad Electricity Supply Corporation and Jamshoro Thermal Power House.
"This bid to sell Wapda in bits and pieces is totally against the national interest as 160 million people of the country depends on Wapda for meeting the electricity needs. Wapda is a national institution which should be saved and protected at all cost," they stressed.
They also said that sky-rocketing prices, widening gap between the rich and poor and unemployment are the indicators which the government should give due consideration.
The salary structure of labour class should be changed according to the ratio of price-hike, they concluded.
