Former All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) chairman and chairman Awami Action Committee (AAC), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said the APHC wants to put several fruitful and positive new suggestions before New Delhi and Islamabad and said they would help the two countries resolve the Kashmir issue.
Mirwaiz was addressing a gathering at historic Jamia mosque here on Sunday during which the AAC passed a resolution hailing the latest Indo-Pak initiative. He said the two countries are apparently sincere in resolving occupied Kashmir issue and he hoped both countries would take more positive steps in this direction after the Saarc summit.
"After a deadlock of two years, the heads of South Asian countries are meeting and it would improve relations between the member countries. Besides, efforts would be made to resolve Kashmir issue, which would be followed by more positive steps after the Saarc summit.
They may take Kashmiri people into confidence for resolving Kashmir issue", the resolution passed on the occasion said.
The AAC leader said Kashmiris are ready to fulfil their responsibilities as they have "done it in the past".
"We have several positive and fruitful suggestions for resolving the issue and we want to put them before the governments of two countries as it will help them in resolving the dispute", the resolution said.
The resolution struck down a statement passed by the party on Jumat-ul-Vida, in Ramazan when it had said that two countries do not want to resolve the dispute even after 55 years have elapsed.
"But, the leadership of two countries have become sensitive towards the issue of restoring peace and bringing prosperity to the region. For this they are ready to forget the bitterness of the past and start a fresh chapter in their relations", it said.
The resolution has also hailed the confidence building measures taken by the two countries including opening of the bus service, declaring cease-fire on the borders, re-starting the air services and extending the presence of diplomats.
"But, we feel that such steps can be a permanent feature only when practical steps are taken for resolving Kashmir issue as it is this issue that has given birth to other differences", the resolution added.
