Pakistan Saraiki Party (PSP) and Saraiki Students Federation on Sunday organised a peace rally from Chowk Nawan Shehr to Multan Press Club to press the member of Saarc countries to sign a no-war pact, reduce their armed forces, cut defence budget and spend maximum funds on the health, education of the masses.
More than 200 participants were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans "people want peace not war, No war-yes peace, free and common trade within Saarc countries, we want peace, cut your defence budget, reduce armed forces.
More than 40 percent people live below poverty line in Pakistan, end poverty, diseases, and illiteracy etc.
The rally was led by Manssoor Karim Siyal, Abdul Satta Thaheem, Hakim Haider Iqbal and Haji Ahmed Nawaz Somroo. The rally began from Chowk Nawan Shehr and terminated at Multan Press Club.
"It is a binding duty of the Saarc countries to resolve their disputes and put their states on the path of progress and prosperity by signing a no-war pact, reducing their armed forces and promoting multilateral trade among the member countries to meet the future challenges of WTO regime," said Mansoor Karim Siyal.
He said that there should be no visa restrictions among the Saarc countries, and they should provide all facilities in tariff, custom and excise duty and they should promote free trade to strengthen their economy.
The rally was also attended by Syed Hassan Raza Bukhari, Niaz Gul Khan, Azam Abbas, Malik Shafqat Maitla, Mulazim Hussain Baluch, Muhammad Idress Joiya, and others.
