The average price of Bangladesh teas rose following competition among buyers at the weekly auction on Tuesday, brokers said.
"Some 1.35 million kg were sold at an average price of 63.39 taka per kg, up 0.57 taka from the last sale. The withdrawal percentage was 21.75," a market report by National Brokers Limited (NBL) said.
Buyers for Pakistan, the Commonwealth of Independent States and Bangladesh exporters along with loose tea traders participated in the auction.
"Buyers competed strongly for better leaves, raising the average price," Rafay Nizam, a director of NBL, told Reuters.
Some 500 kg well made Golden Broken Orange Pekoe realised the highest price of 127 taka per kg while other grades sold at between 47 taka and 117 taka per kg.
The next auction will be held on January 13 with an expected offering of 1.76 million kg.
