Hard red winter wheat spot basis bids in the US Plains were steady to mixed on Friday in a mostly quiet market, merchants said.
The basis was down 2 cents a bushel at Colby, Kansas, and the Galveston, Texas, Gulf Port.
The Texas Gulf track basis also eroded further, dropping 3 cents a bushel. CIF barge and HRW FOB basis values were also weaker, grain dealers said.
The basis in Enid, Oklahoma, was 2 cents a bushel firmer as bidders there tried to fill spot needs.
Premiums were down 1 cent a bushel for 11.00-percent through 11.60-percent protein wheat.
Futures prices at the Kansas City Board of Trade settled mostly higher on Thursday, with the March contract at $3.98-1/2, up 3/4 cent, and the May contract up 2-1/2 cents at $3.98-3/4.
The market was expected to extend gains Friday on market talk that China may be pursuing more US wheat purchases.
Farmers in Kansas, particularly in the drought-stricken western areas, were worrying about the frigid weather that spread the threat of winter-kill damage across the largest wheat-growing state this week.
