A delegation from India will arrive here on Monday to sign the agreement to extend the Lahore-Delhi-Lahore bus service, which was started in 1999.
The delegation will be headed by A J S Sahney, Chairman and Managing Director of Delhi Transport Corporation, which is owned by Government of India.
The original agreement was signed on February 17, 1999 for a period of five years to facilitate the general public travelling between the two countries by road and is due to expire on February 16 next.
The Lahore-Delhi-Lahore bus service started operation under this agreement. Keeping in view the recent thaw in relations between Pakistan and India, the two governments have decided to further extend the protocol.
For this purpose a Technical Committee comprising seven members is arriving from India on Monday to hold meeting with the Technical Committee of Pakistan.
These meetings will be held on January 13 and 14 while the delegation will return to India on January 16.
The delegation also includes officials from Indian Ministries of External Affairs, Home Affairs, and Transport Department. Mohammad Habib Khan Managing Director PTDC will receive the delegation.
Senior officials of PTDC briefed Munir Ahmed, Minster of State for Culture and Tourism, about the extension of the transport agreement between two countries.
