Punjab Governor Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) was given a presentation on educational syllabus and curriculum at the Punjab University Mass Communication Department here on Tuesday.
Chairman Mass Communication Department, Dr Mughees Uddin Sheikh gave the presentation, which was also attended by PU Vice-chancellor Arshad Mahmood, Dr Karim Malik of Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, Anjum Zia of Lahore College for Women University, Sajjad Piracha of Islamia University Bahawalpur, and Iqbal Anjum of Government College University.
While addressing on the occasion, Khalid urged the university authorities to develop educational syllabus and curriculum on modern lines. At present, the media organisations are focusing only on political areas that politicised the society.
There is a need to identify the problems being faced by the community, as it would help in resolving the community problems, he added.
Appreciating the steps taken by the Punjab University for development of curriculum, he urged the authorities to concentrate on improving the method of teaching as well as examination.
He said that staff of government media organisations should be bound to get on-job training and interim-ship in the mass communication department so that interaction between the department and staff could be enhanced.
The Governor, who is also Chancellor of the universities in the Punjab, directed the mass communication department Punjab University, to launch specialised short programmes covering the field of reporting, sub-editing and photography so that professionals could improve their capabilities.
Earlier, PU Vice-chancellor Arshad Mahmood apprised the Governor and other delegates belonging to different universities about the steps taken for bringing improvement in curriculum.
Chairman Mass Communication Department, Dr Mughees Uddin Sheikh briefed the Governor about the curriculum of world universities including USA, European and other countries.
He suggested establishment of Asian University of Mass Communication to impart education and training to the students of Asian countries.
Dr Mujahid Mansoori said on the occasion that our media should play role in image building of the country.
