Brigadier Javed Iqbal, head of Army Monitoring Teams (AMTs) working in aid of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC), has directed the power company engineers to adopt necessary safety measures to protect KESC sub-stations from fire accidents.
He was presiding over a meeting here on Tuesday in which a fire incident, which caused damage to a KESC sub-station, was reviewed.
Brigadier Javed asked the KESC staff to conduct surveys of all the power company sub-stations to suggest measures for their safety.
He said he himself would visit selected sub-stations to see the condition of the KESC equipment.
During the deliberation in which engineers Khalid Iqbal, Shabbir Solangi and Anis Qureshi took part and informed the meeting that a plan was being considered to bifurcate and separate transformers, switches, panels, bus bars and cables existing in a sub-station from each other so that in case of accidental fire damage should not be caused to all the equipment and the losses should be curtailed.
Chief Engineer Khalid Iqbal and Deputy Chief Engineer Arif Malik informed the meeting that so far 60,726 residential and 12,082 industrial meters have been shifted outside the premises, whereas after the installation of check meters on PMTs, grid stations and feeders, the work was being started on metering of multi-storied buildings.
He said that out of 4,000 buildings check meters have been installed on 16.
The purpose of these check meters is to find out illegal use of electricity in the multi-storied buildings.-PR
