Lieutenant General Saeed uz Zafar (Retd) Chairman, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), has asked the KESC management to expedite Hubco-KESC linkup with the Federal government and Wapda to overcome the over 1000-MW power shortage in Karachi.
The Chairman, along with member Nepra, Fazalullah Qureshi, visited the KESC head office on Thursday.
Both the member and the Nepra chief appreciated the recent improvement being brought about by the KESC management in the city power supply position, customer services and recovery of dues to make the Corporation financially viable.
They stated that they were encouraged to note the efforts being made by the KESC.
The Nepra chairman extended the Authority's support to the KESC management for making the Corporation an efficient power provider to the city of Karachi and to overcome the power shortage and said to meet the annual increase in the city power demand, the Nepra would pursue the matter in Islamabad.
Managing Director KESC Brigadier Tariq Saddozai welcomed the latest Nepra decision of tariff reduction for the power consumers of Karachi.
He made a detailed presentation regarding the performance of the power utility, with reference to the Financial Improvement Plan (FIP) for turning around the Corporation into a profitable organisation by 2006.
He explained that since the KESC was whole-heartedly implementing the FIP and was meeting the targets, it would not seek any tariff raise from the Nepra.
