Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) on Friday demanded of the government to either bring detained MNAs Javed Hashmi and Abid Sher Ali in the Parliament or face agitation during President Musharraf's address on Saturday.
MMA's Deputy Secretary General Hafiz Hussain Ahmed told a news conference at the Parliament cafeteria, after the Senate session was adjourned, that the alliance would decide the mode of agitation in its meeting prior to the joint session.
"We will agitate with other opposition members during President Musharraf's speech, and we have already informed the government that both detained lawmakers be brought in the House," Hafiz Hussain maintained.
President Musharraf will be addressing the Parliament after more than 13 months of its existence, and therefore, it was necessary that all the parliamentarians must be present in the House, he said' He also demanded of the government to release PPPP's Asif Ali Zardari and Allama Sajid Ali Naqvi.
In reply to a question, MMA parliamentarian said that the parliamentary party would decide about the nature of protest. "I can't say anything right now," he added.
He stated that Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) component parties -PPPP and PML (Nawaz) - had already been contacted for adopting a collective strategy in this connection.
Earlier, in an informal chat with newsmen at the Parliament House, he said that MMA's Supreme Council had always taken consensus decisions and there was no question of ignoring voice of any component party.
Hafiz Hussain set aside Maulana Samiul Haq's allegations that Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Maulana Fazlur Rehman had hijacked the MMA and they would take unilateral decisions.
