The Senate on Friday presented scene of the National Assembly, as several opposition lawmakers staged a demonstration in front of the chairman's dais, chanting slogans against him.
Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) Senator Mian Raza Rabbani was the first to walk close to the dais, protesting against the chair for not allowing him to speak on the joint opposition's privilege motion on the formation of the parliamentary committee on water.
When the chair declined to allow him to speak on the issue, enraged Rabbani smashed the secretary's file against his table, right in front of the chairman's dais.
While getting the attention of the chair (Mohammedmian Soomro) twice, he claimed that the Senate Secretariat had killed their privilege motions.
"There is a procedure to take up the motions on the floor of the House to decide about their admissibility," he said, as the chair repeatedly asked him to take his seat.
Even he invited Rabbani to see him in his chamber after the proceedings were adjourned.
The senator while talking to newsmen after the adjournment of the session said that the privilege of the House was breached, as the secretariat did not entertain the motion, in accordance with the Rules-61, 62 and 63.
PPPP and other opposition parties had filed privilege motions against National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain for "violation of the rules of procedure in formation of the parliamentarians committee on water".
