An official spokesman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has clarified a news, item about the role of NAB, stating that the Bureau continues to function as apex anti-corruption body of the country within the legally established parameters in accordance with the 1999 Ordinance.
The spokesman referred to the National Accountability Ordinance 1999 and said it clearly states the legal mandate, and authority of the bureau.
"The ordinance articulately defines the objectives and needs for the establishment of NAB, as the country's apex and federal anti-corruption agency.
The spokesman underlined that there is no change in the legally established parameters and the bureau continues to work within them.
The provincial Anti-Corruption Establishments (ACEs) would continue to work at the provincial level, the spokesman added.
The NAB, by virtue of its being a federal agency has overriding jurisdiction over them but would continue a non-intrusive supervision.
"In addition, NAB has suggested improvement measures for these agencies, which include restructuring, information and resource sharing, further improvement of the human resources, revamping of the legal framework, to name a few."
This would bring the ACEs in line with the national policy aims against corruption as mentioned in the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, the spokesman said.
