The Gold and Silver Card scheme was introduced to encourage Pakistani living abroad to send their remittances through normal banking channels and avoid using the 'Hundi' system.
This was stated by Saif-ur-Rehman, General Manager Overseas Pakistani Foundation (OPF), in a TV programme in connection with the problems of Pakistani expatriates and their solution.
The scheme, he claimed, had been a great success. The remittances by Pakistani expatriates had increased substantially through normal banking channels.
The Gold and Silver cards are issued to overseas Pakistani against the production of certificate of their annual remittances of $ 10,000 and $ 2,500 through normal banking channel to Pakistan respectively.
These cards are issued on an annual basis because they are linked with the annual quantum of remittances.
However, many Pakistanis living abroad in their phone calls to the PTV programme producer registered their complaints regarding problems that they faced at the home airports.
