The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) on Sunday announced the start of its mass contact campaign in Karachi for Nifaz-e-Shariat, protection of Islamic values and acceptance of its 17-point agenda for resolving public issues.
This was announced by acting president of MMA and Amir Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Qazi Hussain Ahmed while addressing a crowded press conference at JI's Karachi office, Idara-e-Noor-e-Haq.
Other MMA leaders including Liaquat Baloch, Maulana Abdul Jaleel Naqvi, Allama Hassan turabi, Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui, Shaikh Rafique Ahmed, Maulana Abdul Karim Abid and Hameedullah Khan Advocate were also present on the occasion.
Qazi Hussain Ahmed expressed concern over growing US intervention into country's affairs and termed it "lethal" for the integrity of the country.
He warned against taking any unilateral decision on Kashmir without taking the Parliament and people into confidence.
He announced that Kashmir Solidarity Day will be observed on February 5 and said nobody will be allowed to make any deal on the issue against the aspirations of Kashmiri and Pakistani people.
He also demanded release of Allama Sajid Naqvi and arrest of assassins of Maulana Azam Tariq, and asked the President to respect the Parliament and its members instead of showing fists to them.
Condemning the incident in which planes carrying opposition members were not allowed to land at Islamabad Airport, he said that it was against the privilege of parliamentarians and the issue would be raised in the National Assembly.
Presenting 17 points of the MMA, he said Quran and Sunnah should be declared supreme law of the country by amending article 2 of the Constitution, prohibiting any law-making against law of Almighty and recommendations of Islamic Ideology Council be incorporated in the Constitution.
He also demanded removal of article 89, amendment in article 45 regarding President's right of remission in Hudood cases, reviewing article 248 which deals with the misuse of power and National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
He further demanded making similar employment conditions for judges of Shariat Court as of higher courts of the country, debate on recommendations of Islamic Ideology Council be allowed in the Parliament and law-making should be carried out in accordance with those recommendations, and restoration of Friday as weekly holiday.
He further asked the government to establish commissions to formulate and review education, economic and media polices in accordance with Islamic teachings, protect country's nuclear capability and restructure country's foreign policy on Islamic ideology.
