Cable Operations Association, Southern Punjab, has strongly reacted to institution of a case against a cable operator on sedition charges describing it unjust, unfair and repugnant to the norms of justice and said that they are as patriots as any other Pakistani and they cannot even think to do any anti-state act.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday afternoon, Muhammad Ayub, vice-president of the association, said that the staff of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra )was involved in extorting bribe from the cable operators, loop holders.
Whenever the cable operators delay or deny to meet their demands the Pemra staff impose heavy fines or confiscate their equipment or harass them by using different tactics.
He said that more than 90 percent cable operators are switching onto Indian channels on the demand of viewers, particularly to Star-plus (a family channel) but Pemra is showing its efficiency in major cities only, otherwise they extort monthly bribe and shut their eyes from all violations
