The United Nation's Centre for Trade Facilitation (Uncefact) and e-Business is a single focal point to promote trade facilitation based on information communication technology (ICT) in the world.
The Executive Director of Japan Association for Simplification of International Trade Procedures (Jastpro), Kenji Itoh, while talking exclusively with Business Recorder on the sidelines of International EDICOM Conference on 'E-business Impact on Economy' said: "Its purpose is to provide a flexible and innovative global organisation for the development and dissemination of best practices and standards in trade facilitation and electronic business."
He said: "Its vision is to contribute to the growth of world trade through the development and promotion of Simple, Transparent and Effective Processes for Global Commerce."
He stressed the need to ensure punctuality to grab business opportunities because in his opinion chances are lost or gained and reliability is secured through being punctual in a business society.
Kenji said most governments misunderstand that ICT is the final goal, "What's the final goal? the final goal is to achieve business electronically by using ICT. The ICT is just a tool for realising e-Business and trade facilitation."
The governments have to draw a clear policy to promote ICT in country and a road-map as well as to consider not to create "a digital divide" in society.
The AFACT is regional, non-profit and non-political organisation for promoting and stimulating trade facilitation and e-Business, he added.
Kenji hoped the meeting and conference in Karachi could be a milestone that Pakistan steps forward to the open trading society.
