Partly Facetious: exile is the key to becoming a leader with power

"Now the ARD members in the Senate don't want to sit with the Maulanas."
Published January 19, 2004

"Now the ARD members in the Senate don't want to sit with the Maulanas."
"Reminds me of my childhood, it does."
"Well, the nice thing is that our politicians are child like which is kinda sweet."
"But it seems to me there are no lessons learned. Remember Mian Sahib and BB - they would just not talk to each other, even if it meant having their government dismissed, which incidentally it was - twice for each one of them."
"I thought that was because of too ambitious presidents."
"That too, and look where it finally got them!"
"In exile."
"So how come their party members are still following the same policies."
"Nobody told them that the policy of not sitting with your opponents can be extended to the Maulanas. See the Jiyalas and the Nawalas are now allowed to speak to each other, sit with each other and.."
"So what does it take to learn to be civil to another party's member?"
"Not much you know - merely the prospect of power."
"But what about now after the Maulanas signed the deal with the President."
"I am afraid one of the major Maulanas needs to be exiled."
"That's easy. Why don't they make a case of harbouring al-Qaeda. Believeable these days you know."
"Yes especially after the fight in the Senate over the military operation in Fata with the Maulanas maintaining that there should be a referendum in the tribal areas to assess whether the tribes want a military operation. I mean if there are fugitives you don't really ask people whether they want them to be apprehended, right!"
"And the debate further degenerated when a PML (Lota) said that the tribal leaders wanted the operation."
"So now what? Senator Samiul Haq should be exiled?"
"Well, that would serve the purpose well - at least the opposition will then sit together if you know what I mean.
"so exile is the key to becoming a leader?"
"One with powers, anyway. I mean we have Jamali as well."
"Ah yes."
"You know the irony is that the only people who want to sit with the Maulanas are the PML (Lotas)."
"Don't forget the President. He is no PML but he is sitting with them."
"It's the bane of all ambitious army officers - secular or religious - the only ones who want to sit with them are the Maulanas..remember Ziaul Haq."
"Ah yes."
