Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab Majlis-e-Shoora has severely criticised the government for failing to stop the increase in the prices of essential commodities and petroleum products and alleged that the government is be-fooling the masses by increasing the petrol prices, as the internationally, prices of oil have significantly gone down.
Shoora, in its meeting held here on Sunday, observed that the government, in order to please the multinationals, is increasing the prices of petroleum products, which is pushing the hard-up masses further below the poverty line.
"With the government patronage, profits of multinationals have increased manifold while masses, who are already struggling to make both ends meet, would be faced with plethora of problems."
The meeting, chaired by Jamaat-e-Islami provincial chief Liaqat Baloch, further observed that Rs 1.75 per litre increase in the prices of petrol would be a huge burden on public as the trickle down effect of this increase would raise the production cost and would further increase price hike.
The meeting also criticised the Rs 20 increase on 20kg atta bag and asked the government to bring the prices under control.
