District Council Lahore (DCL) in its meeting here on Monday expressed concern over non-responsive attitude of the bureaucracy on the issue of withdrawal of powers from City District Government (CDG) Lahore.
The members of the DCL in their previous meeting had adopted a resolution condemning the Punjab government's decision to withdraw powers of CDG regarding making postings and transfers in the education and health departments.
In Monday's meeting, the members raised hue and cry over the said decision of the provincial government.
Responding to a resolution, seeking court's help on the issue, Naib Nazim Lahore Farooq Amjad Meer regretted that he did not receive any response from the bureaucracy. He added that being part of the House, he would not feel any hesitation to approach Lahore High Court if the issue was not resolved amicably.
The House unanimously adopted two resolutions asking the Lahore Development Authority to provide plots in its housing schemes free of cost to the CDG for setting up six high schools.
Through another resolution, the house urged the provincial government to lift ban of recruitment of grade-4 employees in educational institutions.
On the issue of teachers' strike call, the Naib Nazim asked the office bearers of teachers union to initiate dialogues on the issue of constitutions of schools' councils.
Muhammad Asghar Butt, a UC Nazim, wanted to present a condemnation resolution against detention of nuclear scientists including Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan but chair did not permit him. However, a resolution presented by a minority member was passed to condemn attack on Bible House in Karachi.
