The prevailing wet spell is beneficial to agriculture production boosting the prospects of Rabi crops particularly of the wheat to meet the set target during the current year.
The rain is also very useful in the irrigated areas, as it is most beneficial to enhancing per acre yield of the commodity.
It will not only enable full flow of water in irrigated areas, but also charge the sub-soiled water to generate more water for the tube-wells.
Official sources said the wheat sowing has been completed all over the country, adding wheat has been sown over an area of 7.959 million hectares which is 0.6 percent higher than the sowing of the corresponding period last year.
Federal Agriculture Commissioner Dr Hanif told APP here on Wednesday that "though the rains were late, but it is always beneficial to Rabi crops particularly of wheat."
He said the rain will be very helpful for germination of the crop which would not only increase the productivity of the crop, but also help attain the target, adding the crops of sugarcane would also get boost owing to present rains.
