Partly Facetious: World would be safer with generals at the top!
"I find the future of the world lies with the generals."
"Are you being sarcastic?"
"Absolutely not."
"Why the change of heart? I always thought you were in favour of democracy and that given a choice between any of the Generals namely Ayub or Yahya or Zia or Musharraf you would prefer a third rate politician to be the President so that the ground work for democracy could be laid."
"That's true and you know I wouldn't mind our generals taking over power after resigning or retiring from the armed forces and after standing up for elections like everyone else and no referendums please, thank you very much, I am heartily sick of them, but I wasn't referring to our domestic generals when I said that the future of our world lies with generals. I mean however much we may think we matter to the rest of the world we don't right!"
"Ah I get it. The generals in the United States."
"Precisely. As we discussed before Colin Powell, the only man in the Bush administration that has seen combat, was opposed to war."
"Well that goes for General Musharraf too doesn't it! I mean when he was in the army he fought and I believe Kargil was his brain child but once he took over power he is even friendlier to the Indians than our former elected prime ministers."
"That's cause the situation has changed. Besides our former prime ministers were always scared of a coup by the armed forces in case they got too friendly if you know what I mean."
"Yeah I guess."
"Anyway Kerry has won the Iowa caucus and he is a Vietnam war veteran. And then there is General Wesley Clark, a Democrat hopeful, who has already stated that Bush and team wanted him to link Iraq with the terrorists after September 11."
"Actually I do recall, General Zinni I think he was, who said that people like Wolfowitz and Chaney need to have fought a war to know what it can do to people. He said his son was in the marines so before he committed the country to war he would think more carefully."
"Any response?"
"Wolfowitz said he had been to army hospitals and knew what it felt like to be a soldier."
"Not the same as having fought yourself or having a close family member in the armed forces?"
"No certainly not."
"I guess for the sake of world peace we hope a general is elected in the US elections."
"Amen to that."
