District "Bait-ul-Maal" Committees would be finalised throughout the province up to next week and under new reforms the steps for the welfare of the deserving people would be continued.
This was stated by Provincial Minister for Bait-ul-Maal, Chaudhry Muhammad Ejaz Shafi, during a meeting in the local circuit house, which was attended by District Nazim Chaudhry Zahid Nazir, DCO Tahir Hussain, EDO (Community Development) Chaudhry Shabbir Ahmad, Senior Administrative Officer Dr Tariq Sardar, R.D. Faisalabad Arts Council Asif Chaudhry, D.O. Social Welfare Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal and other officers of social Welfare Department.
Provincial Minister said that after the formation of Provincial Bait-ul-Maal Committees the appointment of "Provincial Ameen" had also been made and with a view to ensuring a transparent method for implementing the welfare projects of the Punjab Bait-ul-Maal and fair utilisation of funds, a comprehensive strategy had been prepared.
He said that in the past a secondary status was given to Punjab Bait-ul-Maal, which resulted in shortage of funds, but now by setting up a separate ministry for Bait-ul-Maal, Chief Minister Punjab, Chaudhry Parvaiz Elahi had strengthened the foundations of this department so that the scope of activities regarding the service to humanity could be expanded by giving special attention towards administrative as well as welfare matters.
He said for increasing the resources for the funds of Bait-ul-MaaI the well-to-do people, philanthropists and donor agencies were being contacted so that the resources for maximum developmental projects could be made available.
He said that the funds would be provided to the districts by Punjab Bait-ul-Maal keeping in view the proportion of population while a separate grant would be provided to the District Governments for the monetary assistance of the deserving people.
District Nazim, Chaudhry Zahid Nazir told the Provincial Minister that in the light of the prescribed policy of the Punjab Government the names of the members would be recommended within two or three days for the representation in District Bait-ul-Maal Committee.
He also informed the Minister about the efforts being made by the District Government for the development of Faisalabad city and the procedure to be adopted for implementing Chief Minister's "Sasta Atta Scheme" in Faisalabad district.
Giving the briefing about the performance of District Bait-ul-Maal Committee, Faisalabad, EDO (Community Development) Chaudhry Shabbir Ahmad told the Minister that during the last financial year and up to November, 2003, a total amount of Rs 8.273 million had been distributed among the different applicants under the procedure and conditions of District Bait-ul-Maal Committee, out of which Rs 2.212 million were given to various NGOs, while Rs 1.22 million for medical treatment, Rs 3.64 million for educational scholarships, Rs 0.324 million on account of Jahez Fund and Rs 0.488 million were provided to the eligible applicants as interest-free loans.
